Tropicale Foods recalls certain Helados Mexico and La Michoacana products due to undeclared milk

Tropicale Foods of Ontario, California, is recalling certain Helados Mexico and La Michoacana products with specific best by dates, because these products contain undeclared milk, according to a Department of Defense All Food and Drug Activity message sent July 28.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) has publicized this recall to all its stores, said Richard Stith, Chief, Public Health Division, DeCA Headquarters and Support Center at Fort Lee, Virginia. Whenever a commissary has recalled or withdrawn products in its inventory, they are immediately removed from store shelves.     

The products were distributed at retail locations nationwide. DeCA only carries Helados Mexico mini variety pack, 18 ounces: UPC 682082112156.         

Though these products include “cream” in the product ingredient list, the common name “milk” is not declared. The following products are subject to recall:

• LaMichoacana coconut, single: best by date Oct. 3, 2026 to May 3, 2027.
• LaMichoacana strawberry, single: best by date Oct. 1, 2026 to May 16, 2027.
• LaMichoacana bubble gum, single: best by date April 7, 2027 to April 19, 2027.
• LaMichoacana cookies and cream single: best by date April 9, 2027 to April 11, 2027.
• LaMichoacana mango, single: best by date Feb. 3, 2027 to April 8, 2027.
• LaMichoacana coconut, 6-pack: best by date Nov. 25, 2026 to April 12, 2027.
• LaMichoacana strawberry, 6-pack: best by date June 3, 2026 to June 17, 2027.
• LaMichoacana variety cream, 12-pack: best by date March 14, 2027 to March 16, 2027.
• LaMichoacana variety cream, 12-pack mini: best by date Sept. 9, 2026 to April 12, 2027.
• LaMichoacana rompope, 6-pack: best by date April 24, 2027 to July 14, 2027.
• Helados Mexico variety cream, 12-pack mini: best by date May 29, 2026 to June 24, 2027.
• Helados Mexico chocolate dip variety cream, 12-pack mini: best by date Dec. 17, 2026 to June 15, 2027.
• Helados Mexico variety cream, 12-pack DLR mini: best by date Dec. 31, 2026 to May 2, 2027.
• Helados Mexcio chocolate dip variety cream, 12-pack DLR mini: best by date Jan. 14, 2027 to June 18, 2027.
